Tree Pruning

Tree pruning involves the maintenance of a tree in the colder months while the tree is dormant. Up to 20% of the wood should be removed each year to maintain a balanced tree. This controls the size and shape of the tree, removing branches that may be compromising its structural integrity, while also stimulating new growth and making it aesthetically pleasing. Pruning is really the best preventive maintenance a young tree can receive. It is critical for young trees to be trained to encourage them to develop a strong structure and prevent trees from becoming deformed; this also helps maintain old trees.

Pruning is conducted on large or small trees for a number of reasons. You may have a tree that has dead or injured branches that need removing caused by disease, insect infestation, or storms. Pruning also encourages fruit or flower growth and controls the size and shape of the crown.
